Brett Christensen

Lieutenant (Navy) Christensen brings over 24 years of experience within the military. A Training Development Officer (TDO) in the Canadian Forces since 2005, Lt(N) Christensen completed a BCom (with distinction) at Royal Roads University (2003) and is currently enrolled in the MSc IPT at Boise State U. A Certified Training Development Professional (CTDP - 2006) through the Canadian Society of Training Development, he received the CSTD Canadian Gold Award for e-Learning in 2007. A member of the AFC-ISPI, ISPI, CSTD and the Canadian Forces Training Development Branch Association, he is also a former Canadian Forces lead for the AFC-ISPI SIG.

Lt(N) Christensen serves as an AFC Officer for three reasons: (1) While HPT has been slow to take hold within the Canadian Forces he is hopeful that with Canadian leadership in the AFC, HPT will gain more recognition and wider acceptance within the Training Development Field and the Canadian Forces as a whole; (2) He sees great potential in the AFC of ISPI and offers his enthusiasm and experience to help continue growing the AFC over his two year term; and (3) He is actively engaged in the field of HPT and believes that further involvement in the AFC-ISPI provides outstanding professional development opportunities.

Roger Chevalier

Former ISPI Director of Information and Certification responsible for encouraging the use of performance technology with ISPI’s 10,000 worldwide members by delivering presentations at professional conferences, instructing in ISPI’s Institute programs, establishing partnerships with other organizations, publishing articles, working with authors to publish their books, and certifying performance improvement professionals as Certified Performance Technologists (CPTs).

Former Training Officer, USCG Training Center Petaluma responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of 25 courses delivered by 120 instructors to 4,000 students a year in seven schools. Former Vice President, Century 21 Real Estate Corporation’s Performance Division with a design staff of seven and over 200 consultants and trainers who delivered sales and management programs for 80,000 sales associates in 5,000 offices nationwide.

Jim Craumer

Jim Craumer

Jim Craumer is currently on active duty living in Cotati, CA. Jim has been an instructor at the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Instructional Systems School Training Center in Petaluma, CA. He has served three tours as an instructor at the USCG Training Center, Yorktown VA. Jim has server 24 years in the USCG. Jim has also server 26 years as an adjunct instructor for the National Fire Academy, Emmitsburg, Maryland. Jim is a National Fire Protection Association Certified Fire Protection Specialist and a Certified Technical Trainer package. He has been married 35 years. He has two children, four grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Aaron Bolin Ph.D.

Aaron U. Bolin, Ph.D.

Dr. Aaron Bolin currently serves as a Psychologist with the Human Performance Center detachment at Millington, TN. Dr. Bolin received a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organization Psychology at Northern Illinois University in 2002. He joined the psychology faculty at Arkansas State University that same year. At Arkansas State, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in industrial/organizational psychology, statistics, research methods, critical thinking, and human motivation. Dr. Bolin has presented numerous papers at professional conferences and published articles in several scholarly journals including Education and Psychological Measurement, Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, Journal of Business and Psychology, American journal of Psychological Research, and Journal of Psychology. He has also authored articles for trade publications, authored instructional materials, received several grants, and consulted with a variety of organizations. Dr. Bolin's current professional/research interests include: human performance improvement, cognitive biases and stereotypes, deviant workplace behaviors, personality and performance, group and team performance, leadership and integrity. Dr. Bolin's professional affiliations include International Society for Performance Improvement, Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, American Psychological Association, American Psychological Society and Toastmaster International. Dr. Bolin has been married to his wife, Laura, since 1993. They have two children, Zack and Alyssa.

Jim Ellsworth

Jim Ellsworth

Professor of Joint Military Operations, U.S. Naval War College Senior Intelligence Officer, U.S. Army MI Corps Association New England

Dr. Jim Ellsworth served as Chapter president in 2001-2002, and organized & led the last Armed Forces Chapter Conference, held in Tucson, AZ in January
2002 in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Jim entered full-time federal service with the U.S. Army Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1989.  He was branch-transferred to Military Intelligence in 1991, graduated with distinction from the Military Intelligence Officer Advanced Course in 1995, and served in a variety of assignments in Intelligence education and training before appointment to the Naval War College faculty in 2000.

Jim is a Certified Performance Technologist (C.P.T.), holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Design, Development & Evaluation from Syracuse University, and graduated with highest distinction from the U.S. Naval War College's College of Naval Warfare in 2003.  His specialties include Military Intelligence, Information Operations, Distance Learning, Organizational Change & Innovation, and Educational Assessment & Evaluation, and he teaches the resident electives on Critical Thinking and the Future of Armed Conflict.

Dr. Ellsworth's book, Surviving Change: A Survey of Educational Change Models, was published in 2000 by the U.S. Department of Education. His other notable publications explore intelligence support to emerging warfighting concepts, organizing for stability & support operations, and defining effective objectives.

Vincent W. Patton, III, Ed.D.
Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, Retired

Dr. Patton served as the 8th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard from May 1998 until his retirement from more than 30 years of active service in November 2002. In this position he was the Coast Guard’s senior most enlisted member representing over 45,000 personnel as the principal advisor to the Commandant of the Coast Guard.  His illustrious career included staff and operational assignments throughout the country, both afloat and ashore.  Among his numerous military awards includes the Distinguished Service Medal which is the nation’s highest peace time recognition for performance of duty.

Dr. Patton received his doctorate of education degree from American University, a master’s degree in counseling psychology at Loyola University at Chicago, a B.S. in social work from Shaw College and a B.A. in communication from Pacific College. Since retirement from the U. S. Coast Guard he later earned a Master of Theology in Applied Religious Studies from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. His extensive military education includes the Department of Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, U. S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, and the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Academy. 

Dr. Patton is presently Director of Community Outreach for Military Advantage, a division of Monster Worldwide and the world's largest military membership organization known as ‘Military.com.’  In this position he is responsible for executing grassroots outreach marketing and public relations program, manages the Military.com career transition fairs, is the senior program manager for government projects, and maintains a close liaison with contacts at all levels in the military community. 

Dr. Patton serves on two presidential appointed cabinet-level board positions: Board of Visitors for the National Defense Intelligence College and the Commission on Veteran Affairs.  In addition he is vice president of the board of directors for the nonprofit First Command Educational Foundation, and is also an ordained Unitarian minister.

Dr. Patton resides in Alexandria, VA, and has two children.

Command Master Chief, U.S. Navy

With 27 years active duty in the United States Navy, and 7 years of that as a Command Master Chief, I am qualified to serve as the AFC-ISPI Secretary/Treasurer.  I hold a MS in Instructional and Performance Technology from Boise State University, and memberships in AFC-ISPI and ISPI. 

During my time with the US Navy and as a member of AFC-ISPI, I have had the pleasure of working with many of you, and many more professionals world-wide who share the same passion and desire to further performance improvement in a truly global environment.  As the Secretary/Treasurer of AFC-ISPI I can continue that path, and provide an important service to our membership at the same time.  In addition, my Navy heritage and unique experiences, along with project management that allowed me to use the fundamental principles of HPT have easily developed and prepared me for positions of greater responsibility and challenge.

Chris Foster

Thomas H. Sheppard, CPT

Thomas served in the United States Navy for 30 years. After retirement from the Navy he became a civil servant. He is currently the Workforce Development Manager for the Chief of Naval Air Training. Workforce development involves using all of the standards of a CPT to shape a workforce. He was with the Navy's Human Performance Center for three years as a Performance Improvement consultant and was part of the Navy's Revolution in Training. Thomas has a Masters in Education and is a Doctoral candidate with a specialty in Training and Performance Improvement. Thomas currently resides in Corpus Christi Texas with his wife and son.

LT Chris Foster is an Aerospace Experimental Psychologist (AEP) receiving his Wings of Gold in May 2005. He is currently stationed at the Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) Human Performance Center Detachment in Corpus Christi, TX. He is actively engaged in a number of HPI and Science of Learning projects including enhancing the efficacy of Introductory Flight Screening, the reduction of Primary Flight Training Attrition Rates, and media analysis for NFO curriculum. LT Foster received his Ph.D. in Industrial / Organizational Psychology from the University of Houston. His dissertation investigated the ability of Organizational Justice to provide a framework for understanding judicial decisions in discrimination lawsuits. Prior to accepting a commission in the Navy, LT Foster worked as an organizational consultant for eight years for clients including Shell Oil Company, Caltex, Chevron-Texaco, Compaq, and NASA on projects ranging from job analysis and competency modeling to design and implementation of selection and performance appraisal systems to support of change management efforts. His most recent publication was titled, “The Effects of Coaching on the Utility of Response Latencies in Detecting Fakers on a Personality Measure,” published in The Canadian Journal of Behavioral Science. He recently presented his work on Organization Culture and Its Impact on the Implementation of New Technology to the International Public Management Association of Human Resources.

Sandra Ogden

Ms. Ogden is a performance improvement and training expert who has worked with private industry, military and government agencies to provide professional guidance in solving difficult problems.  Her many years of experience give customers sound advice, calm in the midst of chaos, and prescriptions for improved performance.

Sandra was instrumental in revitalizing the ISPI Armed Forces Chapter in mid 2004 and served as Secretary/Treasurer from November 2004 to April 2006.  She has been an ISPI volunteer for many years serving as a CPT reviewer, Communications Chair for the Chapter Partnership Committee, and presenter at many ISPI conferences.  She earned a Master’s Degree in Telecommunications and a Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design.  She is a PhD candidate for a doctorate in Education with a Training and Performance Improvement focus.

Sandra is an Instructional Systems Specialist for the U. S. Navy Recruiting Command and is the E-learning Manager for all distance-learning programs.  She can be reached at sandra.ogden@navy.mil.
