February Webinar

Jim HillFeb 15, 1300 Eastern - Dr. Jim Hill [Biography] Cloud Tools That Make HPT Easier.

The world is moving to the cloud! And HPT practitioners can help lead that movement while better responding to their client’s most pressing needs. In this session, we’ll learn how our foundational methods are being transformed into practical tools that support the present and can shape the future. All participants will be given access to web-based analysis, planning, and reporting tools. [Presentation]

March Webinar

Andrea EdmundsonMarch 7, 1300 Eastern- Dr. Andrea Edmundson, CPLP [Biography] Culture Matters.

As organizations expand their reach into other countries via online training, the likelihood of a clash of cultures exponentially increases. Yet, instructors may not recognize that certain participant behaviors (reluctance to participate, perceived lack of problem-solving skills, high dependence on the instructor and structure, etc.) are related to cultural differences. They may also be unaware of how long-distance students struggle with courses developed in another cultures. In addition, unlike vociferous Americans, participants from many cultures will not reveal their challenges or express frustration to the instructor. In this session, Dr. Edmundson will describe some of the typical challenges faced by non-American participants in U.S.-designed elearning courses and, from the participants' perspective, how instructors can promote more ‘equitable learning’ for them (i.e., all students expend the same amount of time, efforts, attempts to succeed in order to successfully pass a course). She will also describe the symptoms and behaviors of non-U.S. students who need more support.

AFC Officer Elections for 2012

If you know of a member willing to serve in the positions of President-elect or Secretary-Treasurer or if you are ready to step up to the challenge yourself, please consider contacting us. In January, we will send ballots listing all nominees who have met the criteria for each position to the membership for a vote. Volunteering time to the chapter and ISPI is very rewarding. If you think you might have a little extra capacity for the upcoming year, let us know.
